[um, sorry... "toys" aren't a BReed, they're a 'breed group' in the various kennel clubs.
MIXED breeds who are under 20#'s as adults are also 'toy' dogs.]]
==============
to get to Ur problem with Ur folks:
INSTEAD of going straight to “my dog”, get some xperience 1st.
* Volunteer with a humane org
* ask Ur folks to help U =raise a service puppy= :
U & Ur parents will have Lots! of support & help, will learn a tremendous amt abt raising a healthy, happy, well-socialized dog, & will have the skills to raise a well-behaved, affectionate pet of Ur own.
* FIND A MENTOR: find an adult who will help U learn all abt the dog’s mind & body. the grown-up might be a trainer, a vet, a dog-show handler, a groomer, a boarding-kennel owner… they just have to be willing to teach U, & they must be *Passionate!* abt dogs, & kind to them, as well as care properly for the dogs in their charge.
[probably obvious, but don't choose anybody who treats their dogs, or anybody else's dogs, in a way that makes U uncomfortable. too harsh, too loud, too rough - if U don't feel okay with their handling or care or cleanliness standards, whatever the part that makes alarms go off in U, go find somebody else that "fits Ur style" better.]
** be a FOSTER for a shelter, breed-rescue, etc.
make sure that the org U choose will *support* U in Ur learning-curve; the dog’s vet bills, food, etc, will be paid for by the org, But U will care for, train & socialize the dog for their future family. many foster dogs are already housetrained, some are already leash-trained & well-socialized, & U may find Ur “perfect pet” in a foster that U fall in love with during their stay with U. If not, they will go on to another family from Urs, & U’ll have lots! of happy memories & learning from every one of Ur foster-kids…
Show ‘em my picture…who could resist a face like this ??
show responsibility…. tell them buy a fish or a bird so u can show u really can take care of animals
good luck ;o)
Offer to pay part of the amount. Make promises. Make a promise for it to be your responsibility.
I own 3 dogs and they are a big responsibility. But the benefits are great!!
Good Luck.
