How Is The Best Way To Get Rid Of The Rubber Odor And Taste Of Rubber Dog Toys?

My dog just won’t play or pick up these toys and I am sure it is because of the strong odor and potential taste. I have washed them with liquid dishwashing liquid, but it did not help.

have you tried getting toys similar to the rubber ones to make sure its the smell/taste of the rubber and no the toy itself.
I don’t think you can get rid of the odor… you can try masking it with peanut butter or cheez whiz. KONG makes a squeezy treat that you can stuff in the toys too.
If you are looking for something to keep your dog occupied raw hides work well. KONG also makes a cool toy called an “air kong” its fun shapes made with tennis ball material. so its not as strong of a rubber smell/taste. And they’re SUPER durable. Some toys are not appealing to some dogs. I’ve never heard of the rubber smell turning a dog away. For godsake they chew dirty socks and eat cat poop! It’s likely NOT the rubber smell of the toys but the toys themselves.
btw, soaking/boiling these toys in “food” broth” could make your dog very sick. The broth will be absorbed into the rubber and could become soured just like regular food. Food poisoning for a dog – not a good idea. Buy new toys.
Get rid of the toy. It’s toxic anyway. Raw meaty bones will occupy your dog in a much healthier way. Guess you’re dog already knew this
Try soaking them in chicken or beef broth.
