My Dogs Fight Over Each Others Toy When They Have Identical Toys.?
Sharing and fairness is strictly enforced with our pitbull puppies. Our boy and girl each get identical toys to chew on, but it never fails. They have to have the other dogs toy leaving one toy abandoned. They equally try to steal each others toy.
We’ve gotten in the habit of putting one of them in the kennel to play and the other on the ‘rug’. That didn’t stop the problem either. The dog on the ‘rug’ goes over to the kenneled dog playing with the toy and goes crazy barking and leaping all over the place trying to get the toy.
I guess it’s like ‘the grass is always better on the other side’ syndrome.

It’s a display of dominance. one is trying to be the leader. Watch the Dog Whisperer on the Discovery Channel or get the book “Cesar’s Way” by Cesar Millan. You can learn tips from him on how to put a stop to the fighting. He’s amazing!
I had they same problem with my sister’s dog at my house. I currently have a maltese female and my sister her shih tzu male
would always take my dog toys and they would fight. Until one day I brought the same toy different colors and the fighting stopped. I don’t know if this would work for you. Try it and see what happens.
Territorial issues, maybe. They just want all the toys to themself, and fight for the sake of fighting.
Dogs tend to do that my dogs do that all of the time what you can do is just play with one puppy and when the other one tries to play with it then just say no or dont pay attention to that one
Me and my brothers did the same thing when we were kids, do’nt worry its “Human nature,” Don’t worry ur dogs will grow out of it.
Its a dominance thing
They may just want to play together dogs are very social animals. My pitbulls do it all the time and it is good to let them play like that unless it gets voilent then they may need atime out from playing. Since they are naturally aggressive dogs you can take play time to train them on how to act with each other, You and other dogs. Make sure once they have had all their shots to take them out to socialize with other dogs. And people. Take them to obedience classes and dog parks
that’s so true!!i have a dapple daschund hound, that’s 3, and a min pin thats 4. the daschund gets sooooooo mean over his treats and, and if the min pin even comes close to him when hes eating his treats—hell start growling. and also, when the min pin has a treat, hes right there after hers
Yep, they are so much like children.
I have your answer…………………………….…
GET DIFFERENT TOYS
When you get 2 young children 2 toys the one child will want what the other child has, same thing with your dogs. Leave them alone unless it gets out of hand. Let them learn that if they play too hard the play time is over (because the puppy who got bit will not want to play anymore) It is something that only dogs can teach each other. Once they grow older they should settle down.
Dogs are like kids.. I have 2 and they do the same thing.. I wouldn’t really worry about it… unless you find them getting very aggressive. It is their way of playing….. and a dominance thing too…. they are setting their pack order…
my dogs do that with bones and they are older!
put them in different rooms….that is what i started doing with my adult dogs! If that doesn’t work just let them do it….it is their way of messing with eachother! Every now and then let them play together! Goodluck, hope this helps!
Mickey
I don’t know why they do that either…I have a pit puppy and had a shepard puppy…I think it is because they want to see or have what the other has. Maybe to see what is different about the other one??? To see if it is better? Mine did the exact same thing…Do they fight over the toys? Are they both male?maybe it is a dominance thing. Let me know if you find out…I am curious.
It’s more about dominance then anythine else. My dogs do the same thing. Usually the alpha dog wins. It’s the nature of the “pack”. I don’t think there is anything to worry about as long as neither dog is hurting the other.
